LANC and Time Code

LANC and Time Code - "Perry Mitchell"

From: Greg Carter
What I'm trying to do is collect data in real time on a PC while recording
with a camera (Sony DCR-TRV900 NTSC), and synchronize them as precisely as
possible. To that end, here are my questions. Any help or suggestions would
be most appreciated!
1. Does DV time code include user bits like the SMTPE VITC does?
2. If so, is there any way to "push" data to the camera to be placed into
the user bits while recording, either via the LANC port, FireWire port, or
otherwise?
3. If not, is there any way to send time data to the camera, via any of its
ports, which the camera will then use as its time code?
4. If none of the above will work, is the time code that is being generated
and recorded by the camera available at any of its ports during the
recording process, or only during playback?
