You will need to make a conversion to NTSC prior to the burning of the VCD,
I believe. DV in Europe is sampled at 4:2:0 and DV in US is at 4:1:1. They
are also a different in frame rate, 25/30 and number of lines 625/525.
These differences will need to be resolved or you will have to play your
video in a PAL system always.

So here's the issue. The timecode out of the camera is on a BNC cable and
the SMPTE input on the Midi Timepiece AV is a female 1/4 inch connection.
We tried making a modified cable that goes BNC to 1//4 inch but still cannot
get any sort of timecode into the Midi Timepiece AV. [By the way, the
connections between the Timepiece, 896, and Powerbook are all fine. I
understand that the Timepiece converts SMPTE timecode into midi time code to
work with Digital Performer, but that's not really the issue.]
The burning issue is how to send timecode from a DSR-500 camera to the 1/4
inch input of the Motu Timepiece AV.
I don't think the problem is a discrepancy between VITC and LTC timecodes.

the Timepiece is designed to accept LTC timecode.

Imaging chip resolution is best appreciated in light of chip size.
Theoretically, high res on small chip van take same quality video as
lower res on larger chip. Smaller chip advantage is it's cheaper.
Do I understand it right that larger chip advantage is better low
light performance. Does this explain why DCR-PC110 minimum required
lighting is 7 lux vs. 4 lux on the 950 then 2 lux on the VX2k? Why
then is the Pana MX3000 at 15 lux?
Splitter on 3CCD camcorders results to an penalty of a couple of
stops. Since single chip CCDs don't require splitter, this couple of
f stops faster becomes an advantage as well as more DoF flexibility.
