Can't speak for other miniDV cameras. I would suggest going to the web site of the camera you're considering and find a listing of the technical specifications for that particular model. You'll learn much more than you see in magazine adds. In my case, they are XL1 cameras and I belong to the "Owner's Club". The cost is less that per camera. As I recall, they also do some basic checks like lens tracking, etc. I have no idea what other factory service centers charge. Aloha, Jon Burkhart ji2002 wrote: > > Thanks for the advice. How much would one expect to pay to have the factory service center clean a camera? How to Clean a MiniDV Camera - Jon Burkhart Sure, go in any camera store where the clerk speaks English and I'll bet they know what you're talking about. I would have probably called it a puffer-thingie. Aloha, Jon Burkhart Francois Camoin wrote: > Puffer-thing? God I love it when you guys talk technical. But since all you have available is composite video out on your camera, I'd get an adapter from Radio Shack and see what the recording looked like. My guess is, pretty damn good. If the heads had just clogged on the DSC-D30 while recording a scene that could not easily be repeated and you had a backup on the Elura; it would be the most beautiful video in the world! I agree with the overall excellence of the AG-19xx series, but sadly, the TBC did not appear until the 1970 (and it is a truly amazing TBC and noise reducer, too). I am looking forward to adding a 1970 or 1980 to my kit as soon as my 1960 breaks down -- which, after 13 years of use, it shows no signs of doing! :-) I use mine with an I.DEN IVT-9PLUS TBC. originally, around on eBay these days. There are a lot of good TBCs available, cheap, as people transition to digital. DPS makes a bunch of excellent ones, too; if you have a PC with a free ISA slot, the Personal TBC III and IV are worth a look. I have a TBC IV for sale (http://www.adamwilt.com/fs/#DPS) if you're interested, along with a DPS PAR ("Buy a TBC, get a free disk recorder!", grin). AJW [Any bizarre line breaks courtesy of OS X's Mail.app. Think Different!] What to buy - 2nd VX-2000 or DSR-11? - Jon Burkhart That's a REAL GOOD question. A second camera would sure be nice to have, but the camera mechanism really isn't made for all the continuous play, rewind, search, etc. stuff that goes on if you do LOTS of capturing of short clips as most people do. Also, what do you do about playing/recording larger DVCAM reels? You'll need to eventually. Aloha, Jon Burkhart Rich wrote: > > Struggling with this question.
