mixing on TV monitor speakers

Connection not always seen - "Perry Mitchell"

Thanks Kurt. Unfortunately it is the only camera I have. I think you are
right that it is because of an early, slightly different, FireWire spec.
What I don't understand is why it works sometimes? The other platform you
speak of is Mac? It does consistently work on the newer Macs. Do you know
why?
Thanks again,
Marty Matthews

A good observation.
Mixing should be done on high-quality monitors what let you hear every
detail, so that you can catch faint noises and subtle level and atmosphere
changes -- but you should also check your mix in mono on a crappy little
TV speaker.
Some people reverse the priorities, doing most of their mixing on the
tinny mono speaker, and periodically checking on the good monitors.
Personally I usually make the mix through AKG K240 or Sony MDR-F1
headphones (yes, sacrilege, I know...) and review the mix through my tinny
mono speaker.

mixing on TV monitor speakers - "Perry Mitchell"

From: Steven Rogers
I looked at some of my DVDs on a really good TV for the first time over
the weekend (a 57 inch Sony) and got some surprises. I'd been looking at
them on an older 52" Mitsubishi analog TV which wasn't as bright as it
should be - but I didn't realize how much dimmer it was until I saw it
on the new Sony. Also, the Sony doesn't appear to crop anything off the
edge of picture like my regular analog TVs do. That seems like a great
idea, but in some ways it makes it even more difficult to make
"universal" DVD that looks great on a high quality TV and at least
acceptable on a low quality TV.
