I'm trying to determine which cards on the market would provide all the bells and whistles.. but with as few problems as possiable.. cost is a secondary concern.. I am afraid that given the amount of information I have currently I can't be much more specific.. sorry for my lack of information on the subject. I Need a good quality card.. that will preform well while working on mid to high end DV projects.. Say in the 200.00 - 500.00 dollar range.. though there is some flexability in that.. > The 'Firewire device' can be a simple data port costing a few dollars and > supported in both Mac and Windows OS with the OHCI protocol. I'm wondering if the general consensus is if this is still true today. I've got a documentary coming up that's from 24 hours of footage. In viewing the footage with the director/shooter, he said he never worried about what tape brand he used, but everyone of those 24 tapes was a Sony. My VX2000 has only had virgin Sony tape in it. I dub my own copies of client tapes using an old P.O.S. Canon. I'd probably do the same, but the footage is all in PAL. Does this risk seem reasonable? Am I just paranoid? Also, are decks such as a DSR-11 less susceptible to this type of problem? I may rent one to do the capturing (I have a lot of disc space), but a week's rental is about 10% of the purchase price, so it makes the purchase wheels in my head roll. I'd hate to spend and still worry about the tapes I put in it, and I'm also looking at an uncompressed component I/O system, so the dv deck would be a moot point. Thanks for any thoughts and opinions on this, Valerie Tape brand gumminess - "Valerie Shoaps" >By the way, just because your paranoid doesn't mean the >bastards aren't Out to Getcha! ;^) Hi Jon, thanks for the reassurance. Maybe I'll start going to bed without wrapping my head in tin foil. Microwaves, ya know? The spiders sing their secrets like canaries. Jacques: >>I've got a documentary coming up that's from 24 hours of footage. In >viewing the footage with the director/shooter, he said he never worried >about what tape brand he used, but everyone of those 24 tapes was a Sony. > >Stick with Sony. I do. What I meant was upon asking him about brands he uses, he said he never paid any attention. I noticed that his project was all on Sony, but since he's shot in India, Mexico, Morocco, etc... , I imagine at some point he's used another brand. Doesn't the residue/glue rub off the heads and onto the tape, thereby affecting every other tape played in that cam? The dv equiv of STD's? >>Also, are decks such as a DSR-11 less susceptible to this type of problem? > >Not at all. My DSR-40 puked five mintues after it's first taste of >Panasonic. That's not good to hear. My paranoia is heightened a notch. >>I'd hate to spend and still worry about the >tapes I put in it, and I'm also looking at an uncompressed component I/O >system, so the dv deck would be a moot point. > >What VTR are you going to buy? There aren't may uncompressed digital >decks. What I meant was that I'm looking at a RT uncompressed or 2:1 system. I've lost work and career opportunities because of being limited to only working with dv. In my city, the kind of projects I want to work on are still being done in BetaSP and some DigiBeta (trailers, music videos, short docs, etc... ). I'm looking at a dual G4 with an Igniter RT with component I/O, or an Avid Xpress v5, but that's pretty limited in features for it's price; the FCP/Igniter system offers more bang for the buck. My only other option is to go for a ProMax DA MAX when the Xpress DV drivers are final and offer to offline here in dv, then online at a facility in town (I can get a MC 9000 for /hr or /day). Kind of a hard sell to clients when the competition can do it all in one studio/facility with FCP. Plus my profit takes a hit having to online outside. So depending on what I go for for my uncompressed options, my VX2000 would be fine as a VTR for my dv projects. I do have access to a friend's BetaSP deck which he hasn't used in quite awhile. >What's your editing system . . CPU, software, etc.? Are you sussing me out? ;-) AMD 1800+, Asus A7M266 w/1 gig DDR2100, two removable drive tray OS's; one with a IBM 75 gig system drive - the other an IBM 60 gig system drive, 2x120 gig WD media drives plus 200+ gigs of networked and firewire storage, Pyro 1394 card, DVStorm card (only used for RT After Effects NTSC previews), Turtle Beach audio, Matrox G450 dual, 2x Viewsonic GS790's, JVC TM-1650SU NTSC/PAL, Mackie 1202 VLZ, assorted Shure and EV mics. I also have my 'office machine' with an AMD 1.33GHz and 512 mb DDR (Soyo Dragon +) which is also a workable edit system if I need it when the other system is rendering. I'm waiting for a dual motherboard to come out that meets my needs/specs. I'm also proud that I've built my last 3 systems (I do everything but mount the cpu to the mb). A very cozy boutique studio. Software is Xpress DV3, After Effects, Illustrator, PhotoShop, etc... (Premiere is mothballed), and more misc. goodies. Whew... I need some coffee and a smoke ;-0 Valerie (diese posts stammen von der DV-L Mailingliste - THX to Adam Wilt and Perry Mitchell :-) [up] |
