DVL-Digest 1191 - Postings: Index Aspect ratios etc (was Text glow ?) - (2) How to use 70% zebra? Perry - Re: Text glow ? - (2) Text glow ? - (2) Aspect ratios etc (was Text glow ?) - "Perry Mitchell" From: Perry Mitchell Lots of nice numbers and tests, but the bottom line is that your assumption that 720x480 in a DV frame represents a 4:3 image is wrong! Of course the error is small, and it is probably more important to co-exist with Premiere's foibles than to get it spot on, but we were talking exactitudes! For the hell of it I'll see what FCP does, because I suspect it is more exact. Aspect ratios etc (was Text glow ?) - "Perry Mitchell" From: Vidiot Perry responded: >To remind you, >the active pixel sizes are 712 x 486 (NTSC D1), 704 x 480 (NTSC DV), 702 x >576 (PAL). My miniDV camcorder FILLS the 720x480 frame. It doesn't contain 704x480 with 8 black pixel borders on each side. I'm going to do a test with the camcorder and shoot a perfect circle and square and see what I get. How to use 70% zebra? - "Crittenden, Jan" > From: Rich > > Is this correct? Or you can go to article ID: 36836 Text glow ? - "Perry Mitchell" From: Vidiot As I totally expected, the 720x540 image is the CORRECT size to use with DV in order to achieve a 4:3 final output on the TV screen. Text glow ? - "Perry Mitchell" From: Vidiot >Lots of nice numbers and tests, but the bottom line is that your assumption >that 720x480 in a DV frame represents a 4:3 image is wrong! It is nice to say that it is wrong without saying how/why it is wrong. I'm not saying that 720x480 represents 4:3 in square pixels, but a 4:3 image in rectangular pixels.
