Fabulous DV storm info - "Perry Mitchell"

From: Andy
Yeah I'd be wary about any manufacturers marketing hype, I'm sure this link
has just as much!

what is relationship between 75% zebra & gray card - "Perry Mitchell"

From: King Cheung
hi list,
first of all, thank you for all the advices about the posting of exposure
for DV shooting.
However, please forgive my ignorance, but I don't quite get the relationship
between 75% zebra and gray card.
I do understand that
1./ the auto iris is based on gray card (or medium gray)
2./and 75% zebra means everything in the scene having the "last" 25%
brightness will be shown in zebra pattern (am I right about this, anyway?)
3./ the gray card reflects 18% of the light
so I am a little bit confused how to put a 18% reflective gray card and 75%
zebra pattern together to determine the exposure.
Also, I see the term 75IRE. Since I am not familiar about Beta, so I am
wondering if IRE is the same thing as zebra.
Please educate me.

what is relationship between 75% zebra & gray card - "Perry Mitchell"

From: Jeff Lewin
Thanks for the great info,
A couple questions.
My TRV-900 has a zebra pattern. Generally, when shooting, I make sure that
not too much of my shot is showing up with the zebra markings. I'm not
sure what type of zebra this camera has, (75%? 100%?) does anyone else know?
Obviously I don't have a very thorough understanding of exposure. I do
understand the basics, but what does a gray chart tell you? How is
luminance relevant to getting good color? What is the link there? What is
it's relation to color balance?
Can a waveform monitor (PC VERSION) be used after the shot? Looking at the
waveform, what is the perfect waveform going to look like?
