incidental music


incidental music - "Don Mitchell"


I have some students doing a run & gun thing
about parking problems on a college campus. As
you'd expect, when they're in and out of student
cars, in the parking lots, etc., there's a lot
of music in the air and therefore on the tape.
We need their piece to be legal.
What are the issues for "incidental" music? Is
there some length of time that one's allowed to
let an identifiable piece stay on the audio
track, when the music itself is part of the
documentary scene? Something analogous to "fair
use?"
