DVL-Digest 1368 - Postings: Index Cheap cables, expensive cables dv-l digest: December 14, 2002 Fastest Way to Split AVI files Cheap cables, expensive cables - "Don Mitchell" Cables, on this slow Sunday evening. I don't think that "cheapest is best" is always the way to go for cables. You want a decent cable -- well made. Probably this doesn't mean the most expensive cable, but why trust your job to the cheapest cable out there? Maybe this is less true for Firewire, but in my experience for SCSI, RS232, and so on you want a good cable. I've had SCSI not working and it's been the cable (and terminator) fault; excellent cables from Granite Digital and everything worked fine. Cheap cables and terminator from Adaptec ... wouldn't work at all. However. Since it's a slow day, you want over priced cables? for Firewire at Best Buy doesn't make it. Try the high-end stereo market. Those guys understand pricing. Sure, you don't want the worst interconnects made who knows where, cheap wire, crummy plugs, but: how about a 1 meter RCA-RCA for ? XLR-XLR, 1 meter, ? (Yes, five hundred dollars, 1 meter) and then, my all-time favorite, a fine AC power cord, yes, that's right -- don't use just any AC power cord on your audio equipment. You need: Cardas Quadlink-Five power cable: (but it's 10' long) or perhaps Cardas Golden Reference Filtered Power Cable: . Am I kidding? I'm not. Many places push these, er, overpriced cables. One such is: www.audioadvisor.com So think about it. Ten AC power cables (but each is 13' long!) or a DSR370L. Which would you pick? Now you know where to Christmas shop for your audio friends. Don Mitchell dv-l digest: December 14, 2002 - "Perry Mitchell" From: Chuck Cox Perry, I have a few questions for you regarding your experiences with TMPGEnc. How does TMPGEnc compare in quality with the QT 5 encoder which prepares files for use with Roxio's titanium 5.X software? How would you rate TMPGEnc quality with Roxio's Titanium 5.X encoder for MPEG 1? For MPEG2? Could you describe how you transfer files between your Mac's and PC for purposes of encoding? What software on the PC do you use to network with your Mac's, if they are networked? Fastest Way to Split AVI files - "Valerie Shoaps" >I have a 13 Gig AVI file that was captured in Scenalyzer that MUST be >edited >with Cinestream. Unfortunately, Cinestream will only see the first 2 Gig of >an AVI file. Using Vegas Video I can easily see the whole file. > >At this point, I see two options: > >1. Load in Vegas and render as Quicktime. >2. Load in Vegas and render as multiple 9 minute AVI's. > >Is there a quicker way to split an AVI file into pieces? Does Cinestream support QT files over 2 gigs? If it does, then what I would do is convert the avi to the QT codec of choice with Advanced DV File Converter. This is a really handy tool to have for collaborating with other systems. http://members.chello.hu/mezei.attila/dvtools/ Valerie Creative Cow Forum Leader -AVID -Adobe Premiere ________________________ http://www.creativecow.net (diese posts stammen von der DV-L Mailingliste - THX to Adam Wilt and Perry Mitchell :-) [up] |
