DVL-Digest 1382 - Postings: Index Adding a SuperDrive To JVC or not to JVC Wired DMP board w/1.1.2 software Adding a SuperDrive - "Perry Mitchell" From: Dale Baglo I bought an Apple G4 (733) about a year ago *without* the superdrive. Just wondering: when the day arrives that I want to start burning DVD's, what are my options for adding a DVD burner-either a SuperDrive internally or 3rd party external? Are there advantages to one scenario over the other? If I can add the SuperDrive internally, does that mean I disconnect the CD burner that's already there or can the two live side by side? To JVC or not to JVC - "Perry Mitchell" I think there is a general lack of understanding about RS-422 when used on VTR machines. RS-422 is in fact just a spec for a serial comms port, a sort of up-market RS-232. What folks should REALLY say is a >Sony transport protocol for an RS-422 port< but it is understandable that it is usually shortened in some way! Unlike Firewire, RS-422 does not carry any actual video or audio. The Sony protocol is based upon the inclusion of a lot of electronic sub-systems that allow the use of macro commands such as 'go to pre-roll cue' or 'make an edit'. The interface also includes a facility to transfer SMPTE timecode, which implies certain extra features for a DV machine. The system was designed to allow VTR decks to be directly connected to each other or to a simple Edit Controller and make frame accurate editing. There has always been two common levels of support included, either a full system for an editing recorder or a 'feed' system for a play only deck. Sony did keep one trick to itself, whereby machines were automatically identified to a Sony Edit Controller via the RS-422, and thus avoided any need to set constants. Perry Mitchell Wired DMP board w/1.1.2 software - "Perry Mitchell" From: Ron check out http://www.filmwareproducts.com/Wired/DMP/index.html and I quote: "Reported Issues: At current time, Digital MediaPress does not work on Mac OS 9.2.2 due to a bug in the operating system. When experiencing audio synch problems, we recommend that you export your audio into a AIFF file (Final Cut Pro can do that) and run it into A Pack. The audio issues will be fixed in a further release of the driver." (diese posts stammen von der DV-L Mailingliste - THX to Adam Wilt and Perry Mitchell :-) [up] |
