Wes,
In Sharon's workflow, she mentioned she'd be finishing and then finally mastering to DVCAM. Since finishing usually involves color correction or stylization or legalizing, effects (dissloves to mondo voodoo), etc... , these will greatly benefit from either an 8 bit uncompressed workspace (or 10 bit). Doing this stuff is ugly in 5:1, 4:1:1. Yes, even if it will end up as DV25.
Go Kona SD!

Where to purchase drives... - "Don Mitchell"

I've had excellent service from googlegear, in
alifornia -- just bought an IBM 180 GB from from them a few
weeks ago ().
www.googlegear.com
Their prices are as good as anybody's, and in the year or so
I've been using them, I've found them to be reliable.
Note, though: you get "bare" drives from them -- not the
retail packaging. And you don't get any handholding
either -- you're on your own.

Hi Doc,
Normally I stay far away from the mega chains, but they've had some deals this month. Microcenter has Western Digital 200 G ATA100 7200 rpm 8mb cache drives for after rebate. Also check out CompUSA. I also picked up 4 Maxtor 200 G ATA 133 7200 rpm 8mb cache drives for /unit after rebate. One rebate per household, but that's where friends and family come in handy. The WD came with a Promise Ultra100 TX2 pci card, and the Maxtor's with OEM Promise Ultra133 pci cards.
I believe Fry's has a WD 180 G ATA100 deal for after rebate going on this week, too.
