Who's Your Cable Guy? dual processor or hyperthreading - "Don Mitchell" If you're not in a hurry, you could lurk for a while on http://forums.2cpu.com and ask your questions there. Be sure not to confuse hyperthreading with actual physically distinct dual CPUs, though. A single hyperthreaded CPU will not ease your life the way a pair of CPUs will, for a variety of reasons. If you want to make an Intel/AMD comparison, do so with the same number of CPUs. A dualie is a nice machine to work at, even when you're not doing video. You can throw a lot of tasks at it and it won't bog down much, or at all. Don Mitchell Interconnects. Who's Your Cable Guy? - "Don Mitchell" A while ago on a slow day I posted something about obscenely-priced cables ( for XLR-XLR; power cords) -- madness! I agree with the notion that if you get a decent connection, you don't really need anything else. Who doesn't? It seems obvious. Still, there are some additional issues. Some cables are sturdier, just plain better built, than others and it's reasonable to expect them to last longer, or to withstand rough handing. Electrical issues that are unimportant in short cable runs may become important in long ones. And esthetics. Using cables that appeal to you visually does nothing for signal quality but it can be satisfying. I'd stay away from high-end audio cable mfgrs now offering video lines. I was looking for sturdy good quality audio and video cables at retail outlets in my city and failed completely. Only the ridiculous ones were available on the one hand, and the cheap ones on the other. But I managed to find the middle ground at Markertek. www.markertek.com Nice connectors, well made and shielded, etc., etc. More expensive than Radio Shack but well, well below the Monster Cable et al range.
