DVL-Digest 1886 - Postings: Index Digital8 / Hi8 tapes in the UK ? Interesting review of the PAL GR-PD1 Digital8 / Hi8 tapes in the UK ? - "Perry Mitchell" From: Peter Galbavy Matt Garretson wrote: > This is almost certainly a dumb question, but i will be > travelling in England & Scotland with a Sony Digital8 > camcorder, and am wondering whether Digital8 or Hi8 tapes > will be readily available in stores there, and if so, > will they work in my US-market camcorder? They are readily available, and cheap in packs of 5 etc. retail, but they *are* labelled PAL. Whether this is a marketing thing and goes with a simple plastic tag ID on the tape case or whether the there is an formatting difference I can't say. Interesting review of the PAL GR-PD1 - "Perry Mitchell" From: Steve Mullen Not only does the KDDI (JVC) NLE work -- it even runs under Virtual PC on a Mac. Why these computer pros couldn't get it running is very strange. I don't think it's a matter of what I like. The Sony is clearly not accurate, while I'd bet the JVC was spot on. If I want a warm "look" I'll do it in post. But Sony has biased too warm in the past -- usually on the INDOOR setting. And, the VX1000's red was way out of spec. Looks like the world wants pleasing pictures. Which may be the right marketing decision for Sony. After all, a warm wedding is going to be better received.
