DVL-Digest 580 - Postings: Index - (2) DSR-250 Finished formats tape brands Blue Box - "Perry" I've just done a Web search and come up with dozens of uses of 'Blue Box' including the Apple OS-X reference, a phone phreaker's device, several interface boxes, a recycling system and numerous companies. There is however not one single reference to it's use as an alternate for 'Blue Screen' and I suspect the compiler of the Glossary I am editing had a brainstorm! The 250 does not come with battery or charger.< I betcha a couple of those pro Lithiums and a charger'll cost you as much as another camera! Mind you, It'd go a long time on one of my pro battery belts :} Perry Mitchell Video Facilities http://www.perrybits.co.uk/ Finished formats - "Perry" John Jackman posted: >This is necessary since SDI is format neutral and might be transferring from DigiBeta to D2 or BetaSP. (Picking nits just like another thread).< Picking your nits, John: SDI has 2 Sony Incarnations on either the D2 or the Component Digital machines. They are not the same protocol and cannot be used to directly send video from one to the other. The D2 form has uncompressed composite digital video, the other of course has uncompressed component digital. Then of course there are all the other forms of SDI with compressed video data, that are supposed to be now defined within a SDTI label (SMTE 305M). There is even a Hi-Def version, HD-SDI (SMTE 292M). If you think of SDI as a digital BNC, with all the possibilities that implies, then you won't go far wrong! Apparently there is now something called SDTI-CP, where CP is Contents Package, to help sort all this out for use on video server systems. This is all a long winded way of announcing that my new edition of the excellent Quantel Digital Fact Book arrived the other day. Log on to see it or order your own copy! Perry Mitchell Video Facilities http://www.perrybits.co.uk/ tape brands - "Perry" I was shopping around in London yesterday and it is outlandish what retail stores charge for tape; for a Sony Premier DV 60min even in discount stores in Tottenham Court Road. Price for 10+ in a tape specialist is about . The interesting thing is that Sony Premier tape now seems to be cheaper than Panasonic, it was the other way around a few months ago. Maybe that's just a result of the other Sony DV tapes coming in over the top.
