Beta w/TC - FCP - "Perry"

Two tips to help the problem with going from Betacam to unbalanced audio:
1) A simple cable wired from an XLR to phono works 99% and is perfectly safe
when used with output transformers as used in Betacams. If you were getting
these made up especially, it would be a simple addition to add an attenuator
pad. (2 resistors!)
2) Some Betacam machines have separate 'monitor' output connections which
can be set to a lower output level.
If this is an occasional exercise, it may be worth borrowing a professional
type audio mixer that takes XLR balanced line level in, and has an
unbalanced 'monitor' output. A little field mixer intended for ENG would be
ideal.

Yeah, but getting the old shoes into the cassette cases... whew....

1. MIRO DV300 and OHCI standard
>

In and of itself, it's not OHCI compliant. You will have to check with
Pinnacle to see what level of support they'll provide for it under Win2K /
WinME.
> It has the "old" ADAPTEC chip that is said not to be produced any longer.
Adaptec certainly doesn't support it any longer. Neither DPS not Matrox (other
vendors of the Adaptec 8945 card sold by Pinnacle as the DV300) support it
under Windows 2000.
> 2. EDIT DV (UNPLUGGED) and G4 Gigabit

It worked fine on my AGP G4. EditDV disables Apple's FireWire Enabler and
installs its own drivers. To revert to DV capture & playback NOT using MotoDV
/ EditDV, go into extension manager and re-enable the disabled FireWire
enablers (got that?), and disable all the "RadDV" extensions you'll find.
Reboot, and MotoDV/EditDV won't work, but Premiere/FCP will. Those who work
with EditDV and other apps will set up two extension sets, and toggle between
them to use the D.O. Stuff, or all the other stuff.
Cheers,
Adam Wilt
