Way back when, not that long after the Altair hit the streets, I bought an
S100 motherboard 'kit' from a mob in Texas based on the Motorola 6809. At
the time I couldn't afford to buy any RAM chips to populate the 32KB
capacity of the bare memory board. (yes folks, that IS 32KB!) I thought the
chips would get cheaper if I waited a while but they never did and I never
got the board running.
Some time later I played around with some machine code on a British computer
called the Dragon, also with a 6809. I thought for a while about digging out
the kit and making a central heating controller, just for the hell of it,
but I decided to go get a life instead!!
As an aside, I just bought a new Mac G4 with some extra RAM at UKP100 per
256MB. The going rate for my 9600 Mac is about UKP175 per 64MB!! Surely
there must be some way to use the cheaper chips to make modules to fit the
9600 (and most other Macs of the era)?

>And Henry I love your enthusiasm but when you nickname it a panasonic
dvcam, you are calling it a sony format. It is a DV camcorder, Sony makes
DVCAM.
I know its picky but if you were to ask Sony they would be sure to set you
straight. And I too, am a bit of a stickler on nomenclature.<
Not ONLY a Sony format Jan, I have a rather nice Ikegami widescreen DVCAM
camcorder on test at the moment!!
Reading your specs, you HAVE to be a stickler on nomenclature. Calling the
DVC200 the >First 1/2" camcorder to record on large DV tape< is a bit
cheeky! In fact, since DVCAM transports will happily use DV tape the
statement is plainly incorrect.
I'm looking forward to testing the DVC200, but I gather we will have to wait
a while for the PAL version.
