DVL-Digest 788 - Postings: Index [firewwug] Re: timecode out from deck [firewwug] Re: timecode out from deck - "Perry" To be absolutely clear about it and emphasise what Adam is suggesting; a top end DVCAM deck can read the VITC on an incoming analog video signal; use it to lock the internal TCG which then records TC data in the DV data stream; and then on replay use the TC to re-insert VITC in the outgoing analog video. Being pedantic, this is not the same as recording VITC. Remembering that SMPTE TC has two separate channels, a full function DVCAM deck like a DSR-2000 has no less than 12 potential TC sources (from analog video, DV, SDI, SDTI, RS-422 and ext analog TC) and probably a couple I've forgotten! Any one of these could be used to generate the TC which then becomes the VITC of the output video. There is a golden rule to this game, that when push comes to shove and you want some obscure TC routing, then the deck you have won't offer it. In most of the world this is called Murphy's Law, but in the BBC it was always called Sod's Law!
