DVCAM Walkman?

Brent Wiscombe, please turn off read requests! - "Perry"

Gil Sharon:
Those of us that are regular to this list have come to expect a few
guardians of netiquette to look after our interests. If somebody is
inconsiderate or ignorant to cause us some extra trouble or download time
then we can be sure that these stalwart gentlemen will give a gentle poke
with the requisite sharp stick.
Richard H. Heeren is one of those guardians, and is always very polite with
his reprimands. Some of us can be a lot more nasty, so unless you want to
loose the dogs of war then please accept his reasonable and sensible request
without complaint.

DVCAM Walkman? - "Perry"

It's all a marketing thing realy this DV DVCAM stuff.
Both will actually playback both DV and DVCAM. They are just "castrated" to
recording just one or the other.
What a rip-off.<
Not quite - DVCAM has a wider head. If you use it to record DV then the
tracks overlap and there is an increased chance of mistracking and error
dropouts. It is a very similar situation to LP mode with DV.
Recording DVCAM with a DV head would be pointless, since the track would be
no wider.
Ideally a dual mode record deck would need two sets of heads which would be
more expensive.
I've never understood this sort of Sony attack. They have made a terrific
set of consumer (DV) tools which many of us use professionally to good
effect. They have also made a range of professional products (DVCAM) which
are priced from little more than the consumer equivalents up to full blooded
studio type equipment, although still a lot less than traditional broadcast
pricing. There is a reasonable interchange between DV and DVCAM, although
some of it is undocumented and therefore not supported.
My only serious grouse would be the reluctance to support component analog
connections on the cheaper machines.
