MiniDV vs MiniDVCAM Premiere 6.0 vs. FCP 2.0 DSR-11 Say What ??? - "Perry" >Question 3: Under what conditions will it generate it's own drop frame >time code? A small caveat to Vidiot's replies: The DSR-11 will automatically switch between PAL and NTSC for play and Firewire recording. There is a switch at the back to change the standards for analog connections. There is apparently a bug/feature on the machine so that if the switch is left in the PAL position, an NTSC recording via Firewire generates non-drop timecode. Also note that since the DV recordings are made with a wider DVCAM head, there is a similar effect to LP/SP where the DV recordings may not be reliably played back on other transports. DVCAM is faster and wider for more dropout resistance.< technically there is no difference in the decoder, but there is nothing to stop Sony making a superior encoder. I haven't personally seen any evidence to say that they have! Perry Mitchell Video Consultant http://www.perrybits.co.uk Premiere 6.0 vs. FCP 2.0 - "Perry" A small quibble with Bob Fisher's arithmetic! To output real time to a DV tape via Firewire will normally require a minimum of 3 codecs for processing transition effects: one each to decode the two DV source signals and another to recode the result back to DV for the output.
