They're also good, though as you mention, a bit hard to find at times.
Trickier to release while wearing gloves, too.
For completeness I should also mention the "official" industry version, the
Lowel-Clip. Lowel-Clips have the advantage of a one-handed pull-to-release
action, though they can be finicky to attach in the first place and require
two hands to cinch down.
Velcro ties are attractive until you attach them to long cables strung through
bunches of other cables. When pulling the cables at the end of the gig, the
velcro does what it does best -- grabs onto anything it can. It has a tendency
to wrap around adjacent cables and hook back onto itself, or grab the velcro
on the next cable over. Grr. Velcro also picks up any stray cat hair on the
set.
