Of course you young whippersnappers didn't know we used to cut tape heh! It was supposed to be cut in frame blanking, but for reasons I won't go into here it often got cut in active period and about 10% of edits would then cause a sync disturbance on the playback machine (usually a frame roll). It used to play havoc with head-life, but there was no faster way to edit a football game until the ACR-25 came along, and few stations could afford one of those outside of commercials.
