In the Adobe Labs is now the beta version of Audition ready to try for free. The former CoolEdit was acquired by Adobe, and was for some time in the video production suite, but had to give way to the simpler Soundbooth. The main reason for the disappearance of the suite suggested at the time the lack of Mac compatibility. Audition has since been sold as a standalone Windows program (in the current version 3 for 349 €). With its possibilities for recording, mixing, editing, and mastering it is on par with many other professional audio solutions and was at that time even compared to Pro-Tools. By now the public beta of the Mac version, but certainly the odds are good that Audition returns to the CS6. A Windows beta there are not, although apparently has done a lot under the hood.
