Canon focuses on MPEG-2 4:2:2 HD at 50 Mbps

Good news: As recently announces Canon is still in a development-stage professional camcorder, MPEG-2-Full-HD (4:2:2 ) - codec implemented with a data rate of up to 50 Mbps. With this color at more color information can be coded as such with HDV, while for the cut such an HDV-like compression is significantly less expensive than, say, AVCHD. As a professional format, the file format MXF (Material eXchange Format is specified), the media, there is no indication. Further information for the professional Canon camcorder does not, so it is unclear whether this codec in the sighted in the fall prototype, the XH A1 / G1-replacement series as reported is implemented, or whether an even larger model is expected. We would find the former actually a clever idea, especially since Canon should have no qualms about cannibalizing themselves. Thus, there could be a very interesting Neuvorstellung at NAB, with the Canon would be a unique selling point back over the competition. The Sony EX1/EX3-Serie works internally, although in comparison with a 4:2:2-signal that can be tapped via SDI, but regular features in 4:2:0, the data rate is max. 35 Mbps. A corresponding color at the same data rate only offers the Sony PDW-700.
