Many users are already longer looking for a GPU-based compositing solution for the PC. Such solutions are not quite as universal as After Effects or Nuke, but they offer, however, even during the work, a quick preview of the applied effects. Motion on the Mac takes a real role model for this one, which one is looking at the PC in this volume nor in vain. Perhaps this gap is filled soon Mewa Film. This is a compositing (and editing) framework that can be easily integrated into the GPU effects. Compared to other open source solutions like Blender or RamenHDR Mewa but there are a few differences. First, the framework seems not even to be open source, free use for testing, teaching and commercial operations not only free of charge. Commercial use requires a license, which is due annually. Currently there is only a prototype for download. Second, it can itself GPU plugins called MFX-Files as embed themselves can also sell the commercial (to be). Programming is en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Mewa_Film_User 27s_Guide/Extending_Mewa_Film_with_MFX_files% (not very hard), which, as the business model should aim Mewa behind. The framework remains sole intellectual property of the programmer Hugo Goulart Silva, the plugins come from the community. However, Mewa currently offers fewer options than Adobe Pixel
Bender, which are GPU shaders for After Effects and Flash can quickly implement similar as well. A first look at the prototype of Mewa Film (1 January) is then mixed in as well. The import of single-frame sequences succeeded beautifully, with current codecs, however, there were crashes. The few effects were also included in FullHD
rapidly, which hold the program but also all the pictures in memory appears. The Curves Editor also works all right. Seen here, one has a nice playground to try out shaders for Compositing fragment. But if one look at the MFX-Files poses a, one can see that ONLY really very special GPU features are possible here. Other functions, such as a preview to an external monitor or the import of specific codecs only by the programmers themselves are created and integrated. This one is so dependent on its continued use. As such, it is at Mewa Film is a very exciting project which, however, still leaves many questions open. If the framework code openly, here could quickly locate a community. For the approach to offer only a framework and a plugin interface is not bad in principle. Thanks to Heiko Schlomka for pointing out this project.
