Nkunda studied psychology in Kisangani, DRC and in Rwanda's Mudende before he movement of Rwandan Tutsi Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) followed. After 1994, it had taken control of Rwanda, Nkunda went back to his homeland and was a commander of the Rwandan backed Rally for Congolese Democracy (RCD) rebel group that controlled the five-year civil war in most of the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
As a war criminal General Laurent Nkunda has of the UN is being sought. He is accused of genocide, among other things.
