it is advisable to opt for the FX7 an additional directional microphone (animal pictures etc) to purchase (eg Sennheiser MKE 300), or is the existing quality comparable?

Hello,
when almost no atmosphere or noise to be made - then yes - the built in is a stereo type.
Then you always have the same models called - depending on the price class:
Rode Videomic
T-Bone 9600
Sennheiser MKE 300
Beyerdynamic MCE 86 S II CAM / EMX 86 CAM - as it currently does
Sennheiser ME 66 and the associated Power adapter
But you must say number between 3 and 4 are already worlds for me, not so much by the sound, but rather from the structure (eg metal housing), MKE 300 is good for the money, but it is quite Kabelbruchanfällig - less good for the hands - on the Camera Micro.
Quite a money issue - it is synonymous better & more expensive! The two latest sting out but - for a good sound.

The Rode NTG 1 or 2 is synonymous worth a consideration if your budget is limited ... and that is somehow always :-) ... provides for the price a very good quality.
