Are you for sure that the FireWire port on the camcorder is defective? Perhaps it is indeed s.Computer or s.Kabel (though new).

I have an eBay synonymous Canon XL1S. S.Anfang had similar problems. I had in my editing software settings to change the Canon, then it went somewhat. But as 100%, it does not synonymous. Therefore, I play all the movies with my old MiniDV Cam.

Depends: If the track position is outside the tolerance, you can only play the same camera, which absorbs synonymous. Set because there's nothing and if the track should be able also, it is neither with the naked eye to detect even by pressing a key to correct it. But this is a rare special case: Normally you can find the tapes a MiniDV camcorder easily into another play.
