Apple has just kicked off its three-day "Apple Experience" event with the launch of the new iPhone 17e and the new iPad Air. We already reported on this in advance of the event here. The new iPhone 17e brings a range of exciting features—and in one respect, technology not found in the current Pro models.
;) Apple iPhone 17e The Improvements: Modem, Casing, and MagSafeThe integrated cellular modem has been upgraded; thanks to the Apple-developed C1X chip, it is now said to be up to twice as fast as the C1 in the iPhone 16e. The current iPhone 17 (Pro) models still use the Qualcomm Snapdragon X80 and not the Apple-developed modem. Since the new C1X consumes 30 percent less power than the Qualcomm X75 in the iPhone 16 Pro, it enables improved battery life. Another improvement is the front of the iPhone 17e, now protected by Ceramic Shield 2, which is said to offer three times better scratch resistance than the previous generation and also reduce glare effects. Like its predecessor, the iPhone 17e is also protected against water and dust and is IP68 rated. A new feature for the iPhone e-series is support for Apple&s MagSafe technology for fast wireless charging, which now allows charging at up to 15 watts wirelessly (only slightly more via cable at a maximum of 20 watts) and thus twice as much as the iPhone 16e. Furthermore, the comprehensive MagSafe ecosystem with chargers, cases, and other accessories can now be utilized. Using a USB-C cable and a 30-watt power adapter, the iPhone 17e can be charged up to 50 percent in just about 30 minutes. Battery life appears to have remained the same, with video playback of up to 26 hours, but it should last longer than before during long phone calls thanks to the Apple C1X. ;) Apple iPhone 17e Display and Cameras like the iPhone 16eThe remaining technical specifications are largely the same compared to the predecessor model: the display is still 6.10" and uses an OLED panel with a resolution of 1,170 x 2,532, a peak brightness of 800 nits in SDR or 1,200 nits in HDR mode, and a 60 Hz refresh rate. The two cameras on the back and front have also remained the same: the main camera is a 48-megapixel Fusion camera with f/1.60, optical image stabilization, and two-times optical zoom, and on the front is a 12 MP TrueDepth camera. Thanks to stored depth information, the focus point in portrait photos can also be adjusted afterward. Videos are recorded in 4K with Dolby Vision HDR at 24 fps, 25 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps. As with the iPhone 16e and the current iPhone 17 models, the 17e also offers satellite capabilities when no cellular network or Wi-Fi is available. Users can send SOS emergency calls, notify roadside assistance, send messages, and transmit the "Find My" signal via satellite even without reception. ;) Apple iPhone 17e with MagSafe Accessories Storage UpgradeParticularly attractive—especially in times of sharply rising storage prices—is the fact that the new iPhone 17e offers double the storage for the same or a lower price: the smallest model with 256 GB costs 699 Euros, the same as the iPhone 16e with 128 GB, and the iPhone 17e with 512 GB is even cheaper at 949 Euros than the comparable 16e at 1,079 Euros—however, the price jump of 250 Euros for a meager 256 GB of extra storage remains steep. Apple no longer offers a 128 GB model, so there are only two iPhone 17e versions. Pre-orderThe new iPhone 17e can be pre-ordered starting March 4th at 3:15 PM and will be delivered one week later. The iPhone 17e is now the entry-level model of the current iPhone generation and is about 150 Euros cheaper than the standard iPhone 17 model (both with 256 GB). For the extra cost, you get a slightly larger display (6.3") with up to twice the refresh rate, a front camera with Center Stage function, and an additional 48-MP ultra-wide-angle camera.
