Apple Roadmap 2026/2027: OLED MacBook Pro, Mac Studio M6 Ultra, and Studio Display with Mini-LED

According to Apple insider Mark Gurman, Apple will introduce a whole range of new products in 2026. As expected, these will include—as every year—model updates with a new version of the core component, the SoC. Next year, new Mac Studio models with M5 Max/Ultra, MacBook Pros with M5 Pro/Max, Mac minis with M5/M5 Pro, and MacBook Air with M5 are expected. At the end of 2026 or beginning of 2027, a MacBook Pro with M6 and a MacBook Pro with M6 Pro/Max and an OLED display are slated to follow.

In addition, 2026 will likely finally see two new monitors (the last new introduction was the Apple Studio Display in 2022)—according to an (older rumor), the Studio Display, which currently uses an IPS panel, is set to receive an upgrade to Mini-LED technology, thus benefiting from the advantages of Mini-LED backlighting, such as better contrast and black levels, as well as true HDR representation.
New Low-Cost MacBook
The only truly new product—instead of the usual updates—is expected to be a new low-cost MacBook model (which will probably not be equipped with the then-new M5 but with a predecessor model). Apple would thus be targeting the market segment of cheaper (under 850 Euros) notebooks for beginners, which has so far been entirely dominated by Windows—the cheapest Apple laptop, the 13" MacBook Air, costs 879 Euros in the current generation with M4. Anyone who previously didn&t want to spend that much money on a mobile computer with a display only had the option of one of the many Windows notebooks, which are available starting from just under 200 Euros. Apple has so far reserved the higher-priced and more profitable market segments. However, according to rumors, low-cost means around —so Apple will not present a true "cheap version," but will then have a significantly more affordable laptop on offer than before.

MacBook Updates 2026
The usual upgrade of the MacBooks Pro and MacBook Air to the latest chip generation M5 will bring the customary percentage increase in performance and is otherwise expected to remain inconspicuous in terms of design and hardware; the (just introduced MacBook Pro with M5) will be supplemented by more powerful models with the M5 Pro/Max, which are scheduled to appear in early 2026.
MacBook Pro with OLED
Only the new top models of the MacBook Pro with the M6 Pro/Max, which are due to be released at the end of 2026 or beginning of 2027, will receive other hardware upgrades, namely OLED displays with touchscreens and a thinner chassis. The MacBook Pro with M6, however, is not expected to receive these upgrades; Apple apparently wants to give the higher-priced models additional added value as product differentiation from the base models.

New Mac Mini and Mac Studio - and M6 Ultra
In the middle of next year, the MacBooks Pros will be followed by the next generation of the Mac mini with M5 and M5 Pro Mac minis, as well as—as the most powerful Macs equipped with the best SoCs—Mac Studios with M5 Max and, interestingly, an M5 Ultra. If this rumor is true, Apple would skip a generation after the (Mac Studio with M3 Ultra released in April 2025) (here our (4K-12K performance test with ARRI, Sony, Canon, Blackmagic)) and only introduce a Mac Studio with M5 Ultra again instead of one with M4 Ultra.
To assess the performance of the different versions of Apple&s M-chips: each successive version M3, M3 Pro, M3 Max, and M3 Ultra, in its maximum configuration, has approximately twice as many performance and GPU cores, ALUs, as well as 1.5 to 2 times the memory bandwidth and a higher maximum memory capacity—the Mac Studio M3 Ultra can be equipped with up to 512 GB of Unified Memory.
