AtomOS 12.7.3/4: Atomos Ninja, SUMO and Shogun Gain Support for Sony FX5, F-Log2 C Eterna, S-Log3 Full Range and More

Atomos has recently released the new AtomOS 12.7.3 firmware (and the 12.7.4 bugfix update) for its Ninja RAW, Ninja TX, Ninja TX GO, Shogun AV-19 and Sumo PRO-19 monitor-recorders, bringing numerous new features. These include support for the new Sony FX5 (RAW video processing and camera control), the new "FLog2-C Eterna" gamma option with a dedicated EL Zone false color table for the Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55 along with improved log processing, an additional SLog3 full-range profile, interlaced H.265 recording in 8-bit 4:2:0, as well as improvements to the Camera-to-Cloud function for interlaced footage. Here are the new features in detail:
Sony FX5 with RAW and Camera Control: The FX5 can already record RAW internally as 16-bit X-OCN, but also outputs a 16-bit RAW signal via HDMI. With AtomOS 12.7.3, the Ninja RAW & Co. can now record this signal as ProRes RAW, thus offering an alternative RAW workflow. Additionally, functions such as start/stop, ISO, shutter, aperture, and white balance of the FX5 can be controlled directly from the recorder via USB-C.
SLog3 Full Range Some Sony cameras can output SLog3 as a full-range signal, which utilizes the available value range more fully than legal range. The new AtomOS profile ensures that such signals are correctly interpreted and that black or white values are not incorrectly clipped.
Camera-to-Cloud for Interlaced Footage: Atomos has improved its Frame.io integration for interlaced signals such as i50/i60, which are still common in broadcast and ENG workflows. Proxy generation and uploading are designed to work more reliably as a result.
Sony FX5
Interlaced Recording as H.265 in 8-bit 4:2:0: Interlaced sources can now be recorded directly in a space-saving H.265/HEVC format.
F-Log2 C Eterna Out of the box, the Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55 uses F-Log2 or F-Log2 C as its recording gamma – for which Fujifilm has also released ten 3D LUTs for grading designed to replicate the characteristics of classic Fuji film negatives. F-Log2 and F-Log2 C share the same log curve, but F-Log2 C utilizes the wider F-Gamut C color space.
Precisely for this purpose, the AtomOS update introduces the "F-Log2 C Eterna" gamma option, which, according to Atomos, is specifically calibrated to the camera's characteristics and aims to enable more precise exposure control directly on the monitor via a dedicated color table.
EL Zone Performance
Furthermore, according to Atomos, the performance of the EL Zone system – the false-color exposure control system developed by cinematographer Ed Lachman ASC and licensed to various manufacturers – has been noticeably improved.
Fujifilm GFX Eterna 55
