Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 20.3.2 Improves Trimming

Blackmagic has just released a new version of its free grading, editing, compositing, and audio mastering program DaVinci Resolve (Studio), as well as Fusion Studio 20.3.2 and Blackmagic Cloud Store 1.8.1. DaVinci Resolve 20.3.2 brings several minor improvements alongside numerous bug fixes, such as new Trim Editor options for dynamic trimming, better character spacing for subtitles, progressive renderings for interlaced timelines with the same frame rate, and new color space and gamma options for footage from Fujifilm cameras.

The paid Studio version of Resolve receives, in addition to a 2.5x faster SuperScale Enhanced via the Apple Neural Engine (i.e., only on Apple Silicon Macs), also optimized Magic Mask caching, as well as improvements to metadata preservation and timeline rendering for immersive and stereo 3D projects.

The major update

Resolve 20.3 primarily brought performance and workflow enhancements, such as support for projects up to 32K (on current Apple Silicon systems), accelerated noise reduction in Resolve FX, and nameable Timeline Snapshots for better version control. The Media Pool was functionally expanded, including more flexible metadata columns, ALE import/export, and savable view options. Additionally, there were minor Edit improvements, optimized Sync Lock behavior for speed changes, and extra broadcast-safe aspect ratios. In the HDR area, HDR10+ metadata embedding and IMF extensions were added, among others.

New Resolve Manual

Blackmagic has also released a new version of the English-language manual

published, updated for the current version 20.3 of Resolve. The Resolve 20.3 Reference Manual in PDF format has now grown to a massive 4,300 pages and is currently 204 MB in size.

- More consistent kerning for subtitles.

- Up to 2.5x faster SuperScale Enhanced with the Apple Neural Engine. (Studio only)
- Progressive renderings for interlaced timelines with the same frame rate.
