Four AI functions for on the goThe assistant on the body-worn camera can be activated using the voice command "Hey, Kira" or by pressing and holding the shutter button. The update brings the following four brand-new AI features to the Insta360 GO Ultra action camera: - Real-time translation is designed to interpret conversations in restaurants, while shopping, or on public transport without the need to pass a smartphone back and forth. - Ask with Photo lets users point the camera at signs, buildings, or exhibits and ask questions about them—such as translating a notice or learning about the historical background of a structure. - Ask by Voice answers open questions about the weather, prices, or local dishes. - Voiceprint recognition isn&t actually a standalone feature, but rather a prerequisite for the others. It is designed to filter the user&s voice out of ambient noise so that the assistant can process the correct request even on busy streets or on a train. Action cam as a travel assistant?Insta360 is positioning the new AI features as a complement to the GO Ultra as a small travel camera that, thanks to its compact size, is always with you just like a smartphone. As a result, it doesn&t just shoot videos, but is also intended to act as an intelligent directorial assistant in everyday situations in foreign countries—such as conversing with locals, deciphering signs in foreign languages, or simply getting AI-powered answers to questions about local culture, history, and other things. Insta360 distinguishes the assistant from the already existing Moments Pro auto-editing feature: the AI-powered automatic compilation of clips complete with background music remains a separate feature.  Insta360 GO Ultra What is the Insta360 GO Ultra?We previously introduced the GO Ultra itself  at launch: Featuring a 1/1.28" sensor that is more than twice the size of its predecessor, 4K/60p, a new 5nm AI chip, and weighing just 53 grams, the camera is a highly compact travel companion that can be used for shots where using a smartphone is out of the question (for instance, because it is too large or too valuable). An AI assistant fits right into this concept—however, cloud connectivity to Gemini also means that an internet connection is required for all AI features. While Insta360 does not specify this in detail in the announcement, it will likely significantly limit the area of use (or require the smartphone to be used as a hotspot while on the go). How well the quality of translations and other AI features holds up in practice will likely depend heavily on the Gemini model used. Insta360 also provides no information regarding the latency between question and answer, nor on battery consumption during intensive use of the assistant. With this upgrade, Insta360 becomes the first camera manufacturer to offer a built-in AI assistant, turning the action cam into something entirely new. Time will tell how well this works and whether the AI features will convince users and serve not just as a unique selling proposition, but also as a purchasing argument.  Insta360 GO Ultra AvailabilityThe AI voice assistant will be rolled out gradually via an update in the Insta360 app for the GO Ultra starting August 5, 2026. According to Insta360, availability may vary depending on region and language—Insta360 has not yet provided specific details on which languages will be supported at launch.
