Camera Update 10.2: Blackmagic PYXIS 6K gets phase-detect autofocus and stream routing

[14:25 Wed,3.June 2026   by Thomas Richter]

Blackmagic initially released an interesting new feature in March as beta firmware for a limited group of users; now it is official: With the update to Blackmagic Camera 10.2, the full-frame cinema camera PYXIS 6K now receives full phase-detection autofocus (PDAF), including continuous tracking as well as face and object detection.

The backstory dates back to last year, when Blackmagic first provided the Cinema Camera 6K with PDAF capabilities via beta firmware. The sister model, the PYXIS 6K, followed with the beta build 10.0.3 in March, at that time available exclusively through the Blackmagic forum. The beta already allowed for adjusting the focus area in continuous and tracking modes, as well as automatic face detection via tap-to-focus.

With Camera Update 10.2, this development process has now reached its conclusion. In addition to PDAF support, the final version brings the ability to adjust the AF transition speed, toggle the autofocus mode via a shortcut button, and temporarily pause continuous AF by holding down the focus button.

Blackmagic Cloud Streaming

Support for Blackmagic Cloud Streaming has also been added, which is currently in a free trial phase. The principle: the camera&s live stream (or that of a Blackmagic Streaming Encoder or the Blackmagic Camera App) can be routed via the Blackmagic Cloud and simultaneously output to multiple destinations, such as a Blackmagic Streaming Decoder or DaVinci Remote Monitor, as well as streaming platforms like YouTube and Twitch. The Blackmagic Cloud server acts as a middleman, making complex network configurations at remote locations unnecessary.

The free trial router is included in personal Blackmagic Cloud accounts and offers 4 inputs, 3 outputs, and a dedicated streaming output. Servers are available in Los Angeles, New York, London, Tokyo, Singapore, and Melbourne, which is intended to enable low-latency workflows worldwide.

Availability

As always, Camera Update 10.2 is free and is available for download. The updated PYXIS instruction manual can also be f?_v=1780470010000 (downloaded).
