With its new UltraFine evo 32U990A, LG is targeting not only Mac users looking for a cheaper alternative to Apple&s Pro Display XDR 6K monitor, but also professionals. The 32-inch IPS display, featuring 10-bit color depth, a 16:9 aspect ratio, and a resolution of 6,144 × 3,456 pixels, offers professionals ample space for native 4K video editing while simultaneously providing room for toolbars, thanks to its **high** resolution. ![]() LG UltraFine 32U990A According to LG, the UltraFine 32U990A is even the first 6K monitor to support Thunderbolt 5 with its enormously high unidirectional data rate of 120 Gbps (twice as much as Thunderbolt 4). This enables both higher screen refresh rates and the daisy-chaining of two 6K monitors for multi-monitor setups using just one connection. These capabilities can be utilized, among others, by Apple&s **MacBook** Pro with M4 Pro/M4 Max and Mac minis with M4 Pro, all of which have **multiple** Thunderbolt 5 ports on board. The minimalist design with ultra-thin bezels and the elegant stand fits well with Apple&s offerings. Apart from the Mac **mini** 4, there are also some high-end gaming notebooks that feature Thunderbolt 5, such as the Razer Blade 18 **or the** Clevo X580. ![]() Two LG UltraFine 32U990A via Daisy-Chaining Interfaces and PanelThe UltraFine 32U990A&s interfaces include 2 Thunderbolt 5 ports with 96W **charging power**, one HDMI 2.1, one DisplayPort 2.1 **port**, a USB-C upstream interface, and two slower USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 interfaces. The 32U990A can also be used as a Thunderbolt 5 hub, thus allowing the **simultaneous** use of other Thunderbolt/USB-C peripherals such as SSD-RAID storage solutions. The Nano-IPS-Black panel is VESA DisplayHDR 600 certified and offers excellent color space coverage with 99.5% Adobe RGB and 98% DCI-P3. Its typical brightness is 450 nits – more than standard monitors, but significantly less than Apple&s Pro Display 6K XDR with 1,600 nits. However, at around 4,000 Euros, the Apple display is also more than twice as expensive as the LG UltraFine 32U990A, which costs around 2,000 dollars in the USA (the local price has not yet been announced). ![]() LG UltraFine 32U990A Competition for Apple&s Pro Display XDRThe LG UltraFine 32U990A joins the long-sparse field of **6K monitor competition** for Apple&s Pro Display XDR: until now, there has only been the equally 32-inch Dell **UltraSharp** U3224KB, priced from 2,163 Euros, and the Asus ProArt Display 6K PA32QCV for 1,699 Euros. The LG is similar to both in terms of panel characteristics but offers a more modern selection of interfaces thanks to Thunderbolt 5. ![]() LG UltraFine 32U990A Price and AvailabilityIn the USA, the LG UltraFine evo 32U990A can already be pre-ordered for around 2,000 dollars, with deliveries starting on **October** 20th.
