Nikon has just introduced a new full-frame zoom lens, the NIKKOR Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1, which is primarily aimed at beginners and will likely be encountered more frequently as a kit lens in the future. The new NIKKOR Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 is characterized above all by its compact dimensions and light weight, as well as dust and water sealing (which is not a given in this price range).
Accordingly, the NIKKOR Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 weighs just 350g with dimensions of 73.5mm x 106.5mm. For comparison: the brighter NIKKOR Z 24–120mm f/4 S weighs 630g at 84 x 118mm (and is thus already among the lightest in its class). ;) The optical construction of the new NIKKOR Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 consists of 12 lenses in 10 groups (with one ED glass element and 2 aspherical elements). The closest focusing distances are 0.2m at the 24mm and 50mm zoom positions, and 0.28m at 105mm. The aperture consists of 7 rounded blades, and the filter thread is designed for a comparatively slim 67mm. ;) The AF is driven by a high-speed stepping motor, which is supposed to operate silently and thus also be suitable for video recording. Furthermore, the NIKKOR Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 has an individually programmable control ring for quick and silent access to frequently used camera settings such as: Manual Focus, ISO sensitivity adjustment, or aperture settings for brightness transitions during video recording. ;) In the slashCam editorial office, we frequently use 24-105mm focal lengths for our interviews at trade shows – it&s great to see that Nikon is now also providing affordable entry-level options here.
