Codex has previously manufactured storage solutions for ARRI - now, for the first time, classic, yet quite powerful (and correspondingly expensive) CFexpress cards are being released. The new product line is available in both Type A and Type B formats, thus supporting a wide range of professional camera systems, including Canon, Sony, and Blackmagic.
Two performance classes, Excel and Elite, are available to suit different workflow requirements. The new PCIe Gen 4 product line is aimed at creators who rely on reliable, consistently high performance, fast data transfers, and "uncompromising confidence in their storage media" - and who are also willing to pay a sometimes considerable premium for it.
The also new CODEX CFexpress Type B Reader is designed to deliver exceptionally high performance thanks to USB4 connectivity, as well as broad compatibility with modern Mac and Windows computers. With transfer speeds of up to 5,000 MB/s, offloading data is particularly fast, surpassing the speed of the current generation of storage media. For instance, 1 TB of data from a CODEX CFexpress Type B Elite card can be offloaded at speeds of up to 3,500 MB/s in less than 5 minutes.
The cards integrate CODEX technologies such as FastLane, HeatControl, and ByteGuard for the most demanding 8K and 12K workflows.
The performance specifications of the new Codex cards in detail:
The new Codex memory cards are expected to be available in about 6 weeks. Prices start at 285.95 euros for the smallest and most basic model (CFexpress 4.0 Type A Excel with 256 GB), while the most expensive 2TB card (CFexpress 4.0 Type B Elite) comes in at 1,330.95 euros. The CFexpress Type B Reader costs 237.95 euros.
