For 65mm sensors: Panavision Primo 65 and Angénieux EZ 65 - new lens series introduced

[08:55 Mon,8.June 2026   by blip]

With Angénieux and Panavision, two premium manufacturers have introduced new lenses for 65mm productions. Angénieux intends to port its EZ zooms for the larger image circle while maintaining their ergonomics, resolution characteristics, and look & feel.

The EZ-2 65, with a focal length range of 27mm-72mm at T3.6, and the EZ-3 65, with 82-300mm at T4.2-5.4, will be released, both with an LPL mount. The weight of the zoom lenses is expected to be under 2.5 kg and 3 kg, respectively. Information regarding the price and availability of the EZ 65 series is not yet available.

Panavision Primo 65
The upcoming Panavision Primo 65 series for cinema productions is intended to offer the well-known look of classic Primo cinema optics for 65mm sensors. It is aimed at DoPs and feature film, series, and high-end production environments that utilize large-format digital cameras, such as the ARRI ALEXA65 or the Blackmagic Ursa Cine 17K. With this, the company is expanding its range of lenses with 65mm format coverage; the 65 Vintage, System 65, Sphero 65, and Super Panavision 70 series are already available.

Panavision is positioning the Primo 65 as rental optics for productions seeking a combination of a large image circle, a pleasing impression of sharpness, and the classic Primo aesthetic. The complete set includes twelve spherical focal lengths: 21mm T2, 27mm T2, 30mm T2, 35mm T2, 45mm T2, 50mm T2, 65mm T2, 80mm T2, 100mm T2, 125mm T2, 170mm T2, and 225mm T2.5. All focal lengths use Panavision's proprietary SP70 mount and have a front diameter of 112.8 mm. Uniformly positioned focus and iris rings are intended to simplify lens changes on set.

The Primo 65s are designed to deliver the clear, high-contrast look of the original Primos without appearing overly sharp or technically cold; selected aberration errors are intended to make the image appear more natural and organic. Improved control of focus breathing should also make the lenses more suitable for VFX workflows. Other features include a round bokeh with a slight cat-eye effect toward the edges of the frame, as well as a light, multi-band flare behavior.

In addition to the Primo 65 prime lenses, Panavision has also introduced the 65ZW 20-36mm T4 as a new wide-angle zoom.
