Panasonic has announced a comprehensive update package for its LUMIX S II series of full-frame mirrorless cameras, as well as various accessories and software solutions, which will be available starting March 10th. The new firmware versions affect the S1R II, S1 II, S1 IIE, S5 II, and S5 IIX models, which will gain compatibility with the new DMW-DMS1 digital shotgun microphone, among other improvements. Operational stability of the cameras and the connection to the LUMIX Flow App are also expected to benefit from the enhancements. A pure stability update will also be provided for the LUMIX S9.

In parallel, several S-series lenses, including the PRO models 16-35mm F4, 24-70mm F2.8, 70-200mm F2.8, and 70-200mm F4, will receive a firmware update to version 2.0. This expands the functionality of the focus ring, which can now be used as a control ring and assigned to function buttons; furthermore, the rotation direction of the focus in manual mode can be adjusted.
In the area of smartphone applications, the LUMIX Flow App in version 1.5.0 introduces a new "Director Monitor" mode, which enables extended remote control of playback and clip rating on a mirrored display. Additionally, LUTs can now be selected directly in the app for LUT View Assist, and frame markers can be adjusted. The LUMIX Lab App, in version 2.0.4, gains the ability to manage, transfer, or delete multiple LUTs stored on the camera. Image editing has also been refined by allowing the crop area to be moved and scaled when working with photo frames. The update is rounded off by improved stability of location logging, optimized Bluetooth pairing, and a revised user interface.
All updates will be available for free starting March 10th via the LUMIX Global Customer Support Website and the respective app stores.
