Is Intel buying camera SoC-maker Ambarella?

[10:23 fri,27.October 2017   by ]

bildAccording to stock market rumors (which are driving Ambarella&s share price up), Intel is about to purchase the SoC manufacturer Ambarella, whose chips are used in action cams, security cameras and drone cameras, among other things.

This is also interesting for users, because the star of Amabrella has been in decline lately: GoPro used for the new Hero 6 Actioncam for the first time (other than the old Hero Cams) the specially developed camera SoC GP1 and Google as well as DJI use for their newest products (the Google Clips camera or the Spark drone) the Myriad 2 VPU (Visual Processing Unit) from Intel Movidius Intel had bought Movidius last year.

All the news that has caused Ambarella&s stock market price to fall by around 30% in the last 12 months - Intel could now take advantage of this opportunity to buy in interesting technology and market share and further improve its Movidius models to become the market leader in the promising segment of vision and vision chip systems, which will be of central importance for automotive applications, for example.
