More pro for the portfolio: Atomos acquires reference monitor specialist Flanders Scientific for 1.7 million

[15:55 Mon,13.April 2026   by Thomas Richter]

Atomos has announced the acquisition of the American company Flanders Scientific (FSI), a specialist in professional reference monitors. Through this acquisition, Atomos is strategically expanding its portfolio to cover the entire production pipeline, from on-camera and on-set monitoring to live production, post-production, and final delivery—reaching the highest segment of professional production and post-production workflows.

Atomos& previous portfolio ranged from on-camera monitoring (Shinobi and Ninja monitor-recorders) and on-set monitoring (Sumo) to rack-mount solutions for broadcast and corporate workflows (Shogun AV line) and the new Studio Pro line of reference monitors announced at IBC 2025. Flanders Scientific&s products now complement this offering with professional reference monitors that have long been proven and established in many production houses, meeting all strict requirements for mastering—something Atomos has previously lacked at this level.

Flanders Scientific will continue to exist and be developed as an independent brand within the Atomos family, but will benefit from Atomos& global support and distribution capabilities. The Atomos network includes locations in the USA, England, Germany, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and China. FSI appears to be looking to expand its product portfolio, as suggested by the following statement from CEO Bram Desmet: "...I look forward to what we can deliver together—not just for the broadcast, DIT, and colorist communities we have always served, but also for the broader production world that Atomos reaches every day."

The Deal

Atomos is paying 1.66 million (USD) in cash for Flanders Scientific plus Atomos shares worth approximately ,000, supplemented by a performance-based earn-out component over three years tied to the achievement of certain milestones, which could amount to up to 2% of Atomos shares. Over the past five years, Flanders Scientific has generated an average revenue of million with an EBITDA of ,000; in 2025, revenue rose to .7 million. Following integration, Atomos expects an EBITDA of 1 million for the FSI division alone—even without additional revenue growth. The deal is expected to close by the end of May 2026.

Flanders Scientific Portfolio

Flanders Scientific was founded in 2005, is based in Alpharetta, Georgia, and employs 14 people. The portfolio offers QD-OLED reference monitors from 26.5 to 65 inches (XMP series) for HDR and SDR mastering, which are certified as Dolby Vision mastering monitors and start at around ,000. In addition, there is the XMP-C series, which packs the same panels into more compact housings for control rooms and OB vans. For on-set use and entry-level post-production, the more affordable LCD-based DM monitors are available in 17 to 24 inches. With BoxIO, Flanders Scientific also offers small hardware boxes for LUT and signal management. All monitors use the company&s proprietary GaiaColor calibration system, which works directly on the monitor without external software.

Future

It will be interesting to see whether Flanders Scientific&s technology will also find its way into future Atomos products, such as future models of the Atomos Studio Pro line of reference monitors, the first model of which was originally scheduled to ship in the first half of 2026, whether it will replace them, or whether both brands will simply continue to be developed independently.
