Short films in abundance on the shortest day of the year: on 21.12. the Short Film Day will take place again, where anyone who wants can organise their own small (or big) event. There are currently 246 events registered nationwide, and some will probably be added by the deadline, as it´s not too late to join them yet. The programme already includes all kinds of special short film focuses, for example for 3- to 6-year-olds (KitaKino), short films for senior citizens, short films in bathrobes or, of course, on the subject of Christmas. This year´s overriding motto is Stadt.Land.Fluss.
If you want to pay homage to short film with your own event, you can register your event location (everything is possible from cinema to shared kitchen) and either curate your own programme from catalogues of short film distributors or fall back on some ready-made compilations. (Participation is free of charge, but royalties are charged for the screening of the films).
Filmmakers, on the other hand, have the opportunity to register at the KURZFILMTAG contact exchange. It is intended for networking on a local level -- organizers can directly contact filmmakers who come from the region in question or whose films are shot there. Since most of the events have already decided on their programme, one should probably not expect too much from a registration for this year, but next year there will also be another Short Film Day; since 2011 it is celebrated in France as "Le jour le plus court", in Germany it exists since 2012.
