New version: DaVinci Resolve Studio 21 Beta 4 improves Resolve FX and more

Two weeks have passed since the last beta update for Resolve - now Beta 4 is online. It brings a whole range of new features, improvements, and bug fixes to Blackmagic&s free grading, editing, compositing, audio mastering, and photo editing program, DaVinci Resolve 21 (Studio) - the latter alone is always a good reason to install the latest beta (at least for those users who are already using the new Resolve 21). In parallel, as always, a new version of the standalone VFX program Fusion Studio has also been released, namely 21 Public Beta 4.

Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 21

DaVinci Resolve 21 Beta 4 brings new features such as support for the native color space of Insta360 (I-Log Gamma), the ability to select the trim pass for Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HDR Vivid, and a display in the media pool for the use of photos in albums. In addition, the keyframe editor now supports Fusion motion paths and other modifiers. Improvements include, among other things, the handling of Resolve FX, the rendering of highlights in still images, the image quality of AI CineFocus, as well as the tools for AI Blemish Removal and Face Refinement (the latter two only in the Studio version).

- Fixed clipped highlights in Canon CR2 and CR3 images.
- Fixed purple highlights in some Fujifilm XF10 RAF images.
- Fixed color issues when decoding certain DNG files.
- Fixed incorrect photo cropping when resetting source transformation and alignment.
- Fixed issue where cropping and transformation misaligned Resolve FX on photos.
- Fixed issues with Resolve FX Warper on photos.
- Fixed issue with Resolve FX Face Refinement in alpha processing.
- Fixed issue where AI Blemish Removal was applied outside the face.
- Fixed flickering when using AI Blemish Removal.
- Fixed issue with Render Magic Mask in Place for clips with handles.
- Fixed issue where Render Magic Mask in Place used incorrect resolution for some clips.
- Fixed metadata issue with Dolby Vision IMF renders.
- Clips are now deselected when switching between A-mode and C-mode.

Compatibility between versions

Blackmagic has taken measures for DaVinci Resolve 21.0 Beta 4 to keep project libraries compatible with DaVinci Resolve 20.3.2. As a result, while a project library can still be opened with version 20.3.2, individual projects created or opened in DaVinci Resolve 21.0b4 are subsequently no longer accessible in 20.3.2. Blackmagic therefore recommends creating both a full project library backup and backups of individual projects before opening them in 21.0b4.

Fusion Studio 21 Public Beta 4

Fusion Beta 4 provides improvements and bug fixes such as improved macro editor behavior for nested macros and on control pages. Furthermore, it ensures better compatibility of the paint tool with layer-based workflows as well as support for OpenEXR images in DRFX files.
