NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX series is also very tempting for video users at first glance, although the GeForce series is primarily marketed for gamers. But if you're currently flirting with an RTX model from the new Turing chip series, you still have to dig deep into your pocket. Because the new series is again faster than the cards of the last generation, but this time Nvidia has also raised the price level quite significantly.
An investment therefore needs to be well considered. Also because a few details and problems have come to light since the release.
RTX 2080 Ti failures
Since a few weeks there are more and more reports on the web about RTX 2080 Ti's cards, which suddenly give up after short picture errors. However, it seems (in the USA) to be difficult to get a replacement from Nvidia after a defect. In addition there were reports from users, where also the replacement card was defective again.
According to our statistical understanding, two defective cards one after the other indicate a larger number of defects in the population. However, Nvidia has so far weighed up that this could be a serial problem. In any case, buyers of the RTX 2080 Ti should contact their dealer quickly if they have any problems.
RTX 2070 in two versions
The RTX2080 Ti with at least 1300 Euro is certainly out of reach for most users anyway. The most reasonable card from the new series is probably the RTX 2070. But there are two versions of this card with different chips (TU106-400 and TU106-400A), which actually differ significantly in speed.
You can't really get away with it, but you can still secure double-digit performance gains by careful product research. Which we wanted to have said also only times...
