OLED Reference Monitor: EIZO ColorEdge CG3200X - First OLED monitor in the ColorEdge series, specially designed for HDR grading

EIZO has announced the ColorEdge CG3200X, a new 31.5-inch OLED monitor with integrated color calibration, specialized entirely for HDR grading. The major innovation of EIZO's first OLED monitor in the professional ColorEdge series is the self-developed ABL control (Automatic Brightness Limiter). This makes the dimming inherent to OLED panels at high brightness across large areas more controllable and is intended to significantly improve image display.

This is intended to minimize a classic problem with conventional OLED monitors: while OLED panels achieve extremely good black levels thanks to their technology (each pixel is represented by an OLED, unlike panels with large-area backlighting, meaning the corresponding pixel simply does not emit light) and also achieve very high brightness levels in specific spots, an OLED panel must be dimmed via ABL to protect it from overheating once image areas exceed a certain size and brightness. However, this often leads to uneven changes in colors and tonal values, making reliable grading virtually impossible since the display no longer corresponds to the true image. This is precisely where the ABL developed by EIZO specifically for the CG3200X comes in, as it allows for a higher brightness threshold before dimming sets in and ensures a stable display of non-clipped image portions when ABL is active.

Two different ABL dimming modes are available:
- Highlight Dimming: reduces brightness only in the brightest areas, preserving the image representation of shadows and midtones - Uniform Dimming: uniform brightness adjustment across the entire image for a consistent overall impression
This is complemented by a luminance warning function for clipping areas, an "ABL Safe View" for previewing undimmed highlights on a reduced image area, and a blue status indicator at the bottom edge of the screen to show the user when the ABL mode is active.

The Display
The ColorEdge CG3200X utilizes a 31.5-inch anti-glare, low-reflection QD-OLED panel with 10-bit color depth and a 4K UltraHD resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. It features an OLED-typically high contrast ratio of 1,500,000:1, covers 99% of the DCI-P3 color space and 94% of AdobeRGB, and achieves a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits as well as a response time of just 0.1 ms (gray-to-gray).
Particularly interesting for video work is the variable refresh rate of 23-61 Hz via USB-C/DisplayPort and HDMI, including native support for 24 Hz and 48 Hz. An adjustable contrast characteristic curve (500:1 to 2000:1 in steps of 100) is designed to realistically render SDR material despite the high native OLED contrast, while a patented circuit reduces color fringing at edges. Presets allow for BT.709, sRGB, Display P3, as well as HDR modes PQ/HLG in DCI-P3 and BT.2100 variants. The ColorEdge CG3200X supports HLG for broadcast applications and PQ for the production of films and streaming content.
Interfaces
In terms of interfaces, the CG3200X offers a USB-C port (DisplayPort Alt Mode, up to 60 W Power Delivery), DisplayPort, and HDMI. The USB hub provides two USB-A downstream ports (5 Gbps) plus a USB-B upstream port – according to the specification list, a card reader is not included. Using the integrated KVM switch, the monitor can be used with two connected computers, which can then be controlled using just a single keyboard and mouse.

Color Management
The integrated calibration sensor automates the color calibration process and works seamlessly with EIZO's ColorNavigator 7 software. This ensures consistent color representation across all modes – even across multiple devices in a network via the ColorNavigator Network software. A Digital Uniformity Equalizer corrects brightness and color deviations across the surface, a "Sync Signal" function automatically switches color modes based on the input signal's metadata, and "Pixel Inspection" allows source and display values to be compared pixel-by-pixel.
Ergonomics
The height of the CG3200X can be adjusted by up to 142.1 mm, tilted 35° up or 5° down, and swiveled by up to 344°. Via pivot, the CG3200X can also be used rotated by 90°, e.g., for vertical shots.
*Warranty / Burn-in Protection
Screensaver, pixel shift, pixel cleaning, and thermal dimming are designed to counteract burn-in. EIZO promotes the CG3200X with a 5-year warranty, which, according to the data sheet, does not apply without restrictions to the OLED panel itself; this is limited to 1 year or 10,000 operating hours, while the total service life of the device is 30,000 hours – image burn-in is explicitly excluded from the warranty. A zero-bright-pixel guarantee applies for six months from purchase.

Price and exact delivery date for the EIZO ColorEdge CG3200X have not yet been finalized, but it can be viewed at the upcoming IBC 2026 – EIZO gives the market launch as Winter 2026. To gauge the price, it is worth looking at the EIZO ColorEdge CG3100X, which has similar features but is not an OLED; this costs around 5,000 euros.
