For the second season of the popular Netflix series Jessica Jones, DOP Manuel Billeter has resorted to a currently quite popular combination of vintage glass Panavision Pvintage and high-resolution camera RED Weapon 6K with Dragon Sensor. Here as a first impression of the trailers for the second season of Jessica Jones on Netflix, which is currently starting:
DOP Manuel Billeter deliberately worked on a classic film noire look for Jessica Jones II, which is supposed to work with strong contrasts. According to Billeter, the Panavision Pvintage optics make it easier to create a "nostalgic" look. Most of the shooting was done in 5K resolution and rather wide angle.
Manuel Billeter refers to the look of House of Cards, where RED cameras were also used. The native 4K production specifications of Netflix, Amazon and Co. are also likely to make a significant contribution to the choice of high-resolution cameras such as RED and others.
It will be interesting to see how successful the recently introduced ARRI ALEXA LF - slashCAM Hands On will be in the future. In the Signature Primes presented together with the ALEXA LF, ARRI seems to be heading in the right direction: Here too, ARRI refers to glass with a "character" that is not intended to be clinically sterile.
