Optional Look Tuning: Zeiss Horizon 2x Anamorphic Series with integrated motors introduced

Following the Panoptes 65, Zeiss is immediately presenting another new lens series. In addition to a 2x anamorphic squeeze factor, the Horizon Anamorphic series introduces a few striking innovations. For one, thanks to integrated motors, it is compatible with ARRI and Preston focus pulling systems without the need for external rigging; for another, the image character can be individually adjusted.

Optional Look Tuning According to Zeiss, the Horizon series was developed with a neutral base character that can be classically reshaped using filters, LUTs, or various lighting moods. However, instead of a specific signature look, ZEISS offers an optional, interchangeable "Look Tuning Back Element"—a proprietary optical component that allows camera teams to specifically adjust the individual image character of a lens. Mounted via the ZEISS Interchangeable Mount System (IMS), this element is designed to alter the sharpness, contrast, and overall impression of the image through a simple exchange using eight screws, without compromising the lens's dimensional accuracy or calibration.

Seamless Integration with LCS Quiet and reliable focus and iris motors are also integrated directly into the lens housing. They support ARRI and Preston Lens Control Systems via serial interfaces or LBUS connections. Factory-calibrated absolute encoders store all focus and iris scales directly within the lens. This is intended to create a unified source for metadata, meaning that scales do not need to be remapped, nor do motors need to be reconfigured between different setups. Two displays and touch panels directly on the lens barrel also allow for quick control of focus and iris; there are no lens rings, however.
Low distortion, stable color reproduction, and minimized optical aberrations are intended to make the Horizon lenses particularly attractive for VFX-intensive productions that require clean keying, precise tracking, and seamless integration of computer-generated content. All seven full-frame lenses are delivered with an LPL mount and feature a uniform front diameter of 114mm. This facilitates use on handheld rigs, gimbals, drones, cranes, and vehicle rigs.
The aperture of T2.3 across almost the entire series (T2.9 for the 200mm model) allows for a shallow depth of field in anamorphic full-frame, even under difficult lighting conditions. The integrated electronics and internal memory are designed for future expansions, including broader compatibility with other ecosystems, extended metadata functions, and potential autofocus integration.
Availability The Horizon Anamorphics with 40mm, 50mm, and 75mm focal lengths are scheduled to be delivered starting in September 2026 through authorized ZEISS Cinema dealers. The 35mm, 100mm, 150mm, and 200mm models are expected to follow throughout 2026 and 2027.
