Panasonic Announces OLED alternative for displays at

[08:00 sun,11.December 2016   by ]

OLED displays are in the picture quality currently just as the gold standard, but also have a serious disadvantage: the relatively high price (which explains through a relatively complicated manufacturing process) is not in the foreseeable future to the level typical IPS or TN -Panels fall. In return you get with OLED an extremely high contrast, because here each pixel represents an own light source and in complete shutdown can also be correspondingly dark. The cheaper and widespread IPS or TN display contrast based on partially transmissive color filters, a light source behind the entire panel "only" filter, which is easier to produce, but does not allow such a high contrast of individual pixels precisely. Panasonic has now introduced a new technology, the two worldsto combine. Another LC layer under the color filters can control the light transmittance for each pixel. PIC 1 The backlight has to now pass through two layers, which is why it must be designed to be much stronger. For this, we is possible to pixel-wise also collapse almost completely. Panasonic promises for the brightest points a range of 1,000 cd / m2, while contained the possible black level at 0,001 cd / m2 should be. This would represent an image contrast ratio of 1,000,000:. 1 LC-top displays is currently operating contrast ratio up to 3000: 1 with a comparable white light density of 1000cd / m2. Thus, the new technology is of course also -As OLED vorzueglich for HDR applications. Guenstig production of special HDR-IPS displays, however, is not why she Panasonic
