A new version of AVID Media Composer will be released shortly. With this version, a lot is changing regarding teamwork via Shared Projects. Those who rely on third-party tools instead of AVID's own NEXIS—which emulate the behavior of Avid NEXIS for bin sharing and bin locking—will need to adapt their workflows, because such unauthorized configurations are no longer supported in Media Composer Ultimate, according to AVID, for security reasons. Users must either switch to Avid NEXIS for supported shared-project workflows or use the Media Composer Enterprise version.
This is because Avid is introducing Shared Projects without NEXIS here—a feature that enables production teams to collaborate within the same project, share bins, and access media from shared storage solutions without physical or virtual Avid NEXIS hardware and without any third-party bin-locking tool.
Faster Multicam Editing with PhraseFindAI Multicam Auto Cut
The new PhraseFindAI Multicam Auto Cut feature enables AI-based, automated rough cuts of dialogue-driven multicam recordings. By utilizing speaker assignments from transcripts, Media Composer generates an editable first cut that switches camera angles based on who is currently speaking and makes cuts at speech boundaries.

For interviews, panel discussions, podcasts, unscripted formats, and productions with multiple speakers, this is intended to help reduce repetitive preliminary work in the early editing phase.
Better Transcript Control for Review and Story Refinement
The transcript tools have also been overhauled in Media Composer 2026.8 and are now intended to give editors more control when working with AI-generated transcripts. For example, the original transcript is preserved when manual changes are made to it. If necessary, changes can be undone, segments can be split for a cleaner structure, and speaker texts can be grouped into more readable paragraphs.
These improvements are intended to facilitate the management of transcript-based workflows across review, search, story development, and editorial refinement.
Practical Workflow Improvements
Media Composer 2026.8 also includes a range of day-to-day improvements, such as Choose Bin Column Search to find the right metadata faster in large, complex bins, or Swap Audio Track from Subclip, a function that makes it easier to access alternative source audio tracks without having to rebuild media selections.
Titler+ Keyframe Rectification is designed to prevent keyframes from being lost during trims, cuts, and overwrites in the timeline.
Greater Interoperability and Platform Improvements
The updated OpenTimelineIO adapter is intended to improve timeline exchange with third-party tools and reduce friction in mixed-tool environments. For developers, partners, and enterprise teams, improvements to the MC API and SDK offer new capabilities for sequence creation, OTIO import and export, and read/write access to transcription data.
No More Restrictions in Media Composer First
Media Composer 2026.8 also lifts previous track and resolution restrictions in Media Composer First. Media Composer First thus provides an editing experience that transitions more intuitively to additional features or to Standard, Ultimate, and Enterprise.
To make it easier for users to discover what's new, the version also includes a new "What's New" in-app window featuring highlighted features, grouped sections, and links to learning resources. This allows editors to understand new functions more easily and use them more quickly.
