Robot Cameras: Sony SRG-AS10 and SRG-XS10 - Compact 4K PTZ Cameras with AI Auto-Framing

[07:53 Sun,7.June 2026   by Thomas Richter]

Sony is expanding its PTZ portfolio with two new models, scheduled for release in late 2026: the SRG-AS10 and the SRG-XS10. The SRG-AS10 is a 4K 60p-capable PTZ auto-framing camera that uses Sony&s proprietary AI to automatically detect, track, and capture subjects with natural image composition. The SRG-XS10 is the more compact base model. Both cameras are available in black and white.

STARVIS sensor and smooth PTZ movement

Both models are equipped with a 1/2.8-inch 4K STARVIS image sensor, designed to provide clear images even in low-light conditions, and feature an improved, smooth pan-tilt mechanism for natural camera movements, intended to replace previous maneuvers such as overly abrupt acceleration or deceleration. Additionally, both cameras support 10x optical zoom in 4K and up to 20x zoom in Full HD via tele-converter mode.

AI Auto-Framing of the SRG-AS10: more than just tracking

The major difference between the two versions: only the Sony SRG-AS10 features PTZ auto-framing with several intelligent functions. An AI algorithm not only captures and tracks the position in the room but also detects body posture and head position, which is intended to enable precise framing even when multiple people are in the frame. Furthermore, the so-called "Lead Room Effect" automatically adjusts the image crop to the subject&s direction of gaze. With the "Tracking Range," a fixed area can be defined to which the auto-framing is limited—if the subject leaves this area, the camera zooms out smoothly and waits for their return. This is particularly practical for speakers at a lectern, for example, where uncontrolled camera wandering is undesirable.

The SRG-AS10 supports a multi-person mode for up to eight people—ideal for meetings and events—as well as a special basketball mode that tracks players and ball movements for automated sports recording. Through face registration (also possible via JPEG import in advance), main subjects can be prioritized.

Both cameras feature an integrated tally light: on the SRG-AS10, red signals "On Air" status—the camera is broadcasting or recording—while green indicates that the AI auto-framing mode is active and the camera is autonomously following the speaker. This allows speakers to see at a glance not only if they are being captured, but also how, allowing them to adjust accordingly.

Flexible application - from schools to stadiums

According to Sony, the compact cameras are suitable for classrooms, conference rooms, concert halls, theaters, and sports venues. Streaming protocols such as RTSP, RTMP, and SRT are supported, as well as NDI HX2—pre-installed ex-works without additional license configuration—for flexible IP-based remote production. Thanks to PoE++, power, video, and control can be transmitted via a single LAN cable. Control is possible via VISCA over IP, web app (browser on tablet or PC), as well as the included IR remote control. The RM-IP500 remote controller is available as an option.

Classification in the slashCam PTZ portfolio - and potential pricing

The SRG-AS10 and SRG-XS10 are positioned as more compact, accessible additions below the existing AI PTZ flagships. Since Sony has not announced a price, one can attempt to estimate it based on previous models: the SRG-A12 (12x zoom, AI auto-framing), introduced in 2023, costs around 3,500 euros, and the SRG-A40 (40x zoom) costs around 4,225 euros. The SRG-XS10, as a pure streaming/meeting model without AI framing, is likely to be priced significantly below the A12, while the SRG-AS10 with full AI auto-framing is likely to be closer to the A12, but more affordable due to a smaller sensor and reduced zoom.
