Rugged Smartphone: RugOne Xsnap 7 Pro: Outdoor Phone with Removable Action Cam and Integrated Night Vision Camera

RugOne, a manufacturer specializing in rugged outdoor smartphones, has introduced the Xsnap 7 Pro, featuring an unusual combination of a mobile phone and a mini action cam. A compact camera module sits in a recess on the back of the smartphone, but it can be easily removed and attached separately to the body, a helmet, or a bicycle, for example, to be used as a mini action cam. The smartphone serves as a wireless control monitor and remote control. In addition, the One Xsnap 7 Pro integrates a night vision camera with infrared LED lights for very special shots in low-light conditions.

Removable Action Cam
Weighing just 39 grams and magnetically attached, the camera module records at a maximum of 2.7K at 30 frames per second. Its ultra-wide-angle lens covers 133°, and electronic SteadyX stabilization combined with 360° horizon leveling ensures the image remains steady even during movement. Additional features include FreeFrame recording, slow motion, time-lapse, pre- and loop-recording, as well as HDR photos. The smartphone is capable of displaying the live view from a distance of up to 50 meters.
However, in terms of pure video specifications, the integrated solution of the Xsnap 7 Pro cannot quite keep up with current modular mini cameras like the DJI Osmo Nano or Insta360 GO Ultra: both competitors film in 4K. What makes the Xsnap 7 Pro special, however, is less the action cam module on its own and much more its complete integration into a rugged smartphone that simultaneously functions as a monitor, backup storage, and charger.

The camera module is said to be able to film autonomously for around 40 minutes—recording takes place on the 64 GB internal memory, which, according to RugOne, is sufficient for up to eight hours of 1080p footage. When reinserted into the smartphone, the recordings can be transferred to the smartphone's 512 GB memory, and the camera can be charged via its 9,300 mAh battery. Up to 20 full charges and thus a total of around 800 minutes of recording time are said to be possible this way. Without an additional housing, the camera is waterproof up to a depth of five meters.

50-Megapixel Main Camera and Infrared Night Vision
Aside from the detachable camera module, the Xsnap 7 Pro also features other integrated cameras, such as a stabilized 50-megapixel main camera with a Samsung GN9 sensor and 4K recording capabilities, as well as another special feature: a dedicated 64-megapixel night vision camera with its own infrared LEDs for illuminating subjects. A 32-megapixel selfie camera is built into the front. The 6.67-inch 1.5K AMOLED display of the Xsnap 7 Pro operates at a refresh rate of 120 Hz and is designed to reach a peak brightness of 1,700 nits.
Powering the device is a MediaTek Dimensity 8400 5G processor paired with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The 9,300 mAh battery can be charged wired at 45 watts and wirelessly at 50 watts. Android 16 serves as the operating system—RugOne promises updates up to Android 20.

Rugged Housing
The housing is protected against dust, submersion, and hot high-pressure water jets according to IP68 and IP69K standards, and is designed to withstand drops from 1.5 meters onto concrete as well as submersion in two meters of water for 30 minutes. RugOne underscores the robustness of the Xsnap 7 Pro through certification according to the US military testing standard for durability, MIL-STD-810H, and the particularly break- and scratch-resistant display glass, Gorilla Glass Victus.
An Idea with History
While the RugOne Xsnap 7 Pro would currently be the only smartphone with a separate camera module, the idea is not entirely new. Similar mini-cameras for smartphones already existed in the form of the Sony QX10/QX100 (2013) and the Hasselblad True Zoom (2016)—however, these were not action cams that could be removed from the smartphone.
Sony's QX10
RugOne now combines this concept of a separate camera with a tiny, magnetically attached action cam as we already know them from the Insta360 GO series and DJI's Action 2 or Osmo Nano. However, for the first time, RugOne integrates such a module directly into the back of a rugged smartphone. The phone thus replaces the action pod or display dock belonging to Insta360 or DJI's respective camera modules and simultaneously serves as a wireless monitor, charger, and additional storage.
The Xsnap 7 Pro will initially be offered via Kickstarter—limited early-bird quotas cost 799 euros. A regular worldwide market launch is planned for October 2026. The European list price is set to be 1,099.99 euros. As is usual with crowdfunding projects, the delivery date and actual delivery are by no means as certain as with a commercially available retail product.
